What To Expect – In the NICU {an interview, part 2}

Welcome back! We’re discussing what parents can expect during a NICU stay and are interviewing a couple of wonderful nurses our babies had during our stay. If you missed Part 1 of this interview, you can catch up really quickly here. All caught up? Great! Ok, let's jump back in: So how beneficial is kangaroo-care, really? Mandy: Very beneficial! It can contribute to a decrease in hospital stay for your baby(ies). Just ask the nurse if it is a good day to hold your baby. There are some days where it is not the best day or time to hold the baby due to medical reasons, such as excessive apnea/bradycardia spells, recent work up for infection, general instability, blood transfusion, etc., … [Read more...]

Forty Years in the Making – An Anniversary to Celebrate

Every once in a while you encounter a moment in time that you realize will be life-altering. You know the kind? Life is just happening…when all of a sudden it dawns on you that this present moment is a bit bigger than you had thought. I’ve had several moments like these. Most recently, was when I learned that I was carrying triplets. The world around me stopped and life as I knew it – life as I’d hoped, planned and dreamed it – was shattered. (The Good News Is - It's Triplets) These moments can be good but they can also be terrifying and tempt us with serious doubts, worry and flat-out fear. But I think even in these scary, life-altering moments we can be propelled towards a more … [Read more...]

What To Expect – In The NICU {an interview}

Thanks for joining us! We are currently in the middle of a series on Life with Multiples. Today we’ll hear from a couple of ladies who just happen to be two of my favorite nurses while the babies were in the NICU! While in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a good nurse is more than just a good nurse. She might be a shoulder you cry on, the person you (unexpectedly) share first milestones with, and most likely will become a good friend. Mandy was the babies' nurse the day we celebrated them turning one week old. And Laura helped me give each of my 4-lb babies a bath for the very first time. David and I were at the hospital as much as we could be, so we got to know our nurses really … [Read more...]

If You Were Born With Your Siblings…

Any mom can attest to the crazy joys of parenting several children all at once. The fights over...well, everything. The tattling. The "ick" factor. The exhaustion. The laughs... but think back to when you were "one of the kids" growing up. Remember? Well, recently David's identical twin brother, Daren, and his family were at our house. They were in town vacationing and we were super excited to have them visit. Pretty much anytime I'd been with David's twin was when we were visiting his family in Georgia - David's home state. And of course pretty much everyone had watched them grow up and were used to their identical-ness. But this time they were on our turf. They came to our … [Read more...]

18 Month Update

Ohmygoodness. It’s just sososo hard to believe that my babies are 18 months old! The time has flowwwwwwn by; they’ve changed so much…and in just 18 months! From 3lbs 12 oz to 22 pounders, my little M&Ms have transformed seemingly overnight. Friday we had our 18 month well-visit (I really only make these because I like hearing “good job, mama” every once in a while from a professional…there’s my confession =). Each one is right on track for children their age born full-term! This is just amazing to us and we never cease to be amazed that God has brought them so far. They spent the first 7 weeks of their life growing outside of the womb-home they were “supposed” to be still living in. … [Read more...]

Easter Weekend

I've always loved Easter and celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I love remembering His incredible sacrifice for us on Good Friday, and His triumph over the grave three days later. I grew up knowing it was a celebration of "more than just fun baskets." My parents did a wonderful job teaching us the true meaning of Easter. And I am so grateful.But we also had lots of fun with Easter! I can't tell you how many times we found "lost" Easter eggs in the backyard...months afterwards. Or how many bunnies or birds we got at the end of a treasure hunt over the years. Or the Easter cakes and crafts we made. Or how many times we've gone through the Easter eggs that tell the Resurrection … [Read more...]

O Parents, Parents!

I thought this was a wonderful reminder for every parent!! It is parenting info from Scripture at its best! "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." Ephesians 6:4 Children are keen observers, and are much more powerfully affected by what they see--than by what they hear. It is of little use to talk to them of the gospel--if we do not adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in our lives. Thousands of children are ruined by the conduct of their parents--and many of them professing Christian parents! O parents, parents! Take care what you are teaching your children by your example. You are always influencing them … [Read more...]

Another First – Staying with Papa and Yaya

David and I haven't been away from the babies in 539 days...or since they were born. (We did take a very short overnight, two weeks after they were born and still in the NICU for a quick breather. But I was hooked up to my friend, the Pump, every two hours so you can imagine how crazy that was!) I haven't been away from them for more than four hours. Ever. I have been entangled by three babies 24/7 for 18 months solid. Because of our breastfeeding schedule (which I l.o.v.e.), nobody has taken one or two and left me with "the baby." I've eaten, slept, dreamed and breathed baby x 3 for the past year and a half. And I have loved it. Of course there are times I've been touched out (every day!) … [Read more...]

Our New Wheels – Radio Flyer Triple Play Wagon

It's here! It's here! It's here! Our new Radio Flyer Triple Play Wagon arrived the other day and I could hardly wait to get the babies in it! (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, read about my stroller addiction here.) And it really is fantastic! I love that the babies are engaged with what we're doing now. In the strollers they tend to sit back and zone out (which is not always a bad thing =). But in this they sit up, look around, laugh, play, hit and fight (of course!) and point and chatter. I also love that we fit on the sidewalk now! I never would have imagined that'd be a plus for kids' wheels but it is! I don't have to watch for traffic; though when crossing the street they … [Read more...]

For Such a Time As This…

On March 6, my friends, Aaron and Crystal, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl: Esther Grace Law. I have been deeply affected by the brief time this sweet baby spent on this earth. I know many have been, as well; we all look forward to meeting her One Day. This post is in honor of her life. Tiny hands, tiny feet Have left an impression so large. With us a moment, the moment is gone, Now in the Father’s arms for eternity. Aching dreams and throbbing thoughts, Are left unfulfilled. But there is One Who planned them out, Your days before you were born. There was a purpose, a plan, For each of your days on this earth. Not one of them was happenstance – All were ordered by Him. Your life is a … [Read more...]
